Some painting…

Today, I took time to paint with acrylics. Just for me, I thought I would practice. Well! My characters have a way of sneaking themselves out of me.

This character is part of a 5 book series I have largely written up and which I sorely need to finish up and edit. It’s a story near and dear to my heart… but aren’t they all? I have a hard time being detached from my works! I care too much, too deeply, and too intensely about my fantasy worlds. They feel so significant to me, like little worlds I’m tying together into this one with strings of words. And somehow, it all feels very healing and important.

It always surprises me, too, how art grows on its own. There is a quality to art which seems to come from elsewhere, and which feels uniquely alive. This picture was supposed to be so detailed and still, and yet it came out much more abstract than I ever intended, and yet it represents the character and their story so well! Throughout the painting, I had a little voice giving me instructions, and I was amazed at how it turned out. The little voice knew what it was doing! I’m sure this comes as no surprise to those of us who have multiple encounters with this little voice.

I’m very curious, how have you encountered the “little voice” of art? How does it manifest in your creations? I’d love to hear all about it!

Also, a gentle reminder that submissions close on the 13th for Joyfully Wondrous! 🀩 In order to get a full grasp of what the theme entails, I suggest interested artists take a look at the (free) previous issues on the website ( https://magiquepublishing.com/ )

Have a wonderful day! 😊
