We all know what we speak of. The unspoken, the unnameable, that which threatens and frightens, mocks and jeers.
It is not my role here to provide a forecast, nor to underline the very real threats and fears of many communities. Rather, I am here to offer words of comfort.
In the words of zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, ‘A cloud never dies’. Our hopes live on. Our dreams live on. Things change, certainly, and yet immaterial things remain, powerfully transforming the material world.
Hate is so often there, displaying its destructive power. Yet we must not forget that compassion, like water, is there as well. Deep like the ocean and just as powerful, compassion and deep insight provide powerful tools to shape the world around us.
I do not have a ten-point checklist of actions to take to fix the world. I can only say that though they appear to drift away and transform into rain that showers down around us like tears, clouds will return some day. This is not some miraculous act, in my opinion. Rather, it is the very concrete results of cycles that, when parallelled in the human world, are the results of human goodness and compassion. Much like the water evaporates into clouds in the sky, compassion resists and destroys hate. So, I know that though we may be on the brink of terrible things, the clouds of harmony and peace will return again.
I hope you are well, my friends. Please, take care. β€
