Happy Autumn!

Well hello there!

Today is the first day of fall, at least for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere.

Autumn, fall, it is a wonderful season. It is the time to let go, to release and rest. It is a time of cocooning, of snuggling down in warm blankets and scarves while watching the leaves fall. And in this, there is powerful change.

Sometimes, it is only when we are still that we see the world as it is. After all, if we are running, the view around us is blurred and hasty. When we are standing still, then we may truly see.

Proper insight is crucial to art. Art is about expressing truths, wondersome truths that are deeper than words sometimes, and in order to express them we must first know them on some level. To do this, we must have some sort of nuanced insight.

The thing with standing still though, is that it runs contrary to the modern idea of creating. We tend to think of creating as a motion, but it really begins in stillness, when the insight is planted. The motion comes after, fueled by this insight and stillness.

So, if you have the means, I invite you to stillness this season. It doesn’t have to be grand or tall. It can just be a few breaths here and there. I find just taking a moment to really pay attention to what I am doing to do wonders for my hurried mind. Sometimes the strangest yet most beautiful insights can come from doing the little things, like dishes!

Speaking of little things, the submission period for Joyfully Wondrous has officially closed. I will now begin the process of happily puttering it together, relishing in all the jewel-esque pieces that have been submitted.

In the meantime, if you haven’t yet read through the September issue HERE, please do! Share the link with your loved ones, and let the wonderful creatives know what you thought of their works! Encouragement is always a good thing for a creative to receive.

I hope you have a wonderful autumn, dear reader. Take care.
