Every now and then, the world seems like a grim place. It’s something I struggle with, and I think it’s something we all struggle with, truth be told.
It can be morose, this world. It can be morbid and so many depressing words. And yet, there is much beauty out there. It comes through in unexpected ways, and I am always surprised by it’s creativity and the brightness of it all when it does.
For me, the latest way that I’ve been surprised by the beauty and wonder of the world, was this last submission cycle. Maybe, I suppose, I’d forgotten what it was like to receive wondrous works of creativity, and to be able to read them and be in awe at the world’s expression.
The concept of inter-being, for me, means that a poem is never just a poem and a short story just a short story. It is one person’s expression, but through the inter-being of that one person, through all the ways that person is influenced and overlapped with the world – the poem is an expression of the world. The poem is the world’s expression. If the universe is in the cup of tea, then it certainly is in the poem too.
And sometimes, just like a photograph stills the features and allows us to wonder at them, so does poetry and really, all forms of art. It brings this expression of the world into sharper focus. It allows us to really, really, explore this one little weaving of the universe around us.
So yes, there is beauty out there. I know, because some was just sent to me. It was lovely, truly, to sit back and read (and look!) through this art, this expression.
I must say, to all who submitted, a deep thank you. This was a wonderful experience, and I deeply appreciate it. I can only hope that the magazine will carry on this joy and wonder, spreading it out to our readers and authors. To be the bearer of joy and wonder, truly.
To all the readers and creators out there, I bid you all a lovely day. Take care, and until next time ❤
